How to...

How to use a dryer:

Step 1: Clean the lint filter or screen before each load.

Step 2: Inspect washed items before placing them in the dryer. The dryer's heat will make the stains permanent if they have not been removed.

Step 3: Shake each garment before transferring it from the washer to the dryer.

Step 4: Choose a dryer cycle. Go for the regular cycle if most of the load is all-cotton fabrics, or set it on permanent-press cycle if the load consists mostly of synthetic or permanent-press fabrics (a cool-down period prevents wrinkling).

Step 5: Add a fabric softener sheet.

Step 6: Remove the clothes once they're dry and hang them immediately.

How to tie a tie:

To tie the Four in Hand Knot, select a necktie and stand in front of a mirror. Then follow the steps below:

 1) Start with the wide end of your necktie on the right, extending about 12 inches below the narrow on the  left.

  2) Then cross the wide end over the narrow end.

  3) Turn the wide end back underneath the narrow end.

  4) Bring the wide end back over in front of the narrow end again.

  5) Then, pull the wide end up and through the loop around your neck.

  6) Hold the front of the knot loosely with your index finger and bring the wide end down through the front loop.

  7) At last, remove your finger and tighten the knot carefully to the collar by holding the narrow end and sliding the knot up.

How to use a sewing machine:

1. Raise needle to its highest position by turning the hand wheel at the right of the machine toward you. Make sure that the needle you are using is the correct size for the fabric you are sewing.

 2. Raise presser foot.

3. Thread sewing machine and pull top and bottom threads to the right and back of the machine.

4. Place layers of fabric to be sewn to the left and underneath the raised presser foot.

5. Position fabric so that the distance between the fabric edges and the needle is equal to the required seam allowance.

6. Lower presser foot onto positioned fabric and move machine handwheel toward you until needle pierces the fabric.

7. Begin stitching by pressing on machine foot pedal and gently guiding fabric as it is pulled to the back of the machine. Try not to exert any pressure on fabric other than what is needed to evenly guide fabric in as accurate a stitching line as possible.

8. End stitching by raising needle to its highest position.

 9. Raise presser foot and pull stitched fabric out and to the left. 10. Cut bottom and top threads in order to release fabric.

Reminder: for safety reasons remember not to place your hands or fingers under the foot of the sewing machine or by the needle.
